The Olive-Egger thread!

Freshly hatched batch. Of note is the F2 OE chick whose head is the bottommost right...the white/brown/black striped one between the Rhodebar chicks. All the other F2 OE were black, peacombed I think, some with poofy cheeks. Is this a throwback to ?? I thought these were BCM X Ameraucauna F1 crossed back to BCM (shipped eggs). The eggs were all a nice olive color.

Good morning everyone. I figured I post a few pictures of an olive egger I created using an olive egger roo over a white leghorn hen.

Flash picture is a little lighter than actual picture . She lays like a WL . Daily! To bad I gave her as a chick to one of my brothers friends who wanted to get started in chickens. They love her!! Her name is snowflake. I only hatched a few she was only pullet .

I just got 15 brown leghorn pullet chicks because I needed some better production for my egg customers. I don't usually keep white egg layers, but the promise of near-daily eggs was just too tempting.

Naturally my first thought was what can I cross them with

I have 4 roos right now, ameraucana, blue copper marans, black copper marans and slightly-golden cuckoo marans. The last 2 are still too young for breeding. I guess I can try crosses with both breeds of roo, then recross the resulting pullets.

I would try the amerucauna to make a blue egg layer offspring then cross to one of your Marans to make a green egg layer.
