The Olive-Egger thread!

i guess i can skip all the mess ... because im not a breeder and not interested that much to work on breedibg them... ill just have to see about purchasing some OEs know anyone that ship chicks.. chickens like already about 15weeks?

One of the hatcheries is selling OE chicks. I think it was Meyer Hatchery.

Shipping is a killer on 15 week old chicks. Look on your State thread to see if you can find someone withing driving distance to you.

Some of my young olive eggers, Ameracauna x Marans. Excited to see what shade they will lay. These I bred. I purchased an olive egger hen from a hatchery, but I'm not all that impressed with the shade of her eggs.
Beautiful birds! What kind of maran and ameraucana? I have a 7 week old BlackCopper Maran x Wheaten Ameraucana. She looks a lot like yours, just younger. I can't wait to see her egg shade.

Mom is "Pretty Bird" the goldish ameracauna, sorry to say that I have not researched different varieties of ameracauna, that's all I was told about her when I purchased her from a feed store. She is a bit of an old lady now, but has been my favorite hen. Had to pass those genes along. Dad is "Sebastion" the roo in the 2nd pic. He is a birchen Marans. I love him because he is beautiful AND good tempered. My son catches and holds him.

I have several of their pullets that are approaching 4 months. I will post pics of their eggs as soon as I see some!

Your hen is beautiful. She is an Easter Egger most likely, as she doesn't look like a pure bred Ameraucana. Many feed stores sell so called "Ameraucanas" but they are actually cross bred Easter Eggers.

I used to have a Birchen Marans cockerel. He was the hugest thing. We sold him to some friends (because we had way too many cockerelsat the time). They love him and say he has the best temperament too.

What EE traits do you think she has? I've read that EE's often (not always) have greenish legs rather than slate or black like the Ameracauna, and small or absent combs those are the only traits I've found to be different from the Ameracauna besides the range of egg colors pink blue or green. Pretty Bird's are blue. I sure hope she's not an EE, otherwise I'm not going to get those olive eggs. I guess I'll find out soon!

If you hear of anyone wanting a Birchen Marans roo, I have some young ones I need to get rid of. Same thing, too many! I have one who is 3 ish months, he's beautiful! They are huge! At first I thought my hens were just small, but he dwarfs them!
