The Olive-Egger thread!

I'm so sorry for all the questions, but I'm new one this. So far my understanding on what I'm reading is that if I breed a Maran and an ameruoanas I will definitely have olive eggers?

Not necessarily! I have a lovely young BCM (Black Copper Marans) x Cream Legbar who has just started laying and she's laying a speckled brown egg that is getting darker with every lay! Not green, but REALLY pretty!

Likely your cream legbar only had one blue egg gene and didn't pass it down this time.

Is the egg white or blue on the inside? If you peel away the inner membrane from the shell you can check.

I kind of figured it was something like that. But then again, I've had two EEs who also laid brown eggs!!!!! It is my destiny to have brown eggs!!!!!

EEs are just mixes who can lay any color egg. You could get a pure Ameruacana and know for sure that you have a blue layer.

I don't know what causes the darker speckles but they surely are pretty. I also have a couple of BCM (English, not French) who lay much lighter HUGE brown eggs with white speckles and the speckles turn lavender a few hours after they are laid. I've GOT to get my camera out and take some photos to share!!!!!
