The Olive-Egger thread!

That plum colored one is also stunning! From which hen/breed did it come?

It's from my black copper marans hen. About half of her eggs have a heavier bloom on them and look purple. The OE is a cross between her and my EE rooster. I have a second pullet from the same cross that's about a week younger. I'm anxious to see what her eggs look like too, but she has a single comb so I suspect there will be brown eggs from her. I'm curious what shade of brown (or plum?) they will be.

How lovely - I knew the plum color came from bloom, but keep hearing about Langshans for the plum bloom features. Nice to see it in a different breed...

So lovely! Keep us posted!

you don't wash an egg before setting it. I don't wash an egg until just before eating it and I enjoy the color to the end. all eggs change colors when washed, but only the eggs with the best colors they say, "oh it was the bloom. "

Here's a better photo of the first olive eggs from my marans x isbar crosses. As mentioned before one of them is laying light brown ugh. But the other is a nice olive/khaki color. The photo posted before was a quick phone pic but I got out my real camera, a light tent and my grey card for this one to show the accurate color of the eggs. So this is pretty much what they look like. I think there's still one that hasn't laid yet unless there are two laying the same color olive. Need to find out who's laying what.

Finally! An olive egg! I'm so excited!

Congratulations! Very nice - it looks like a pimento should be sticking out. :)

Wow such gorgeous eggs on this thread! Gives me ideas for the future:) Grey, plum, the possibilities... Now does anyone know if i cross an EE roo hatched from a blue egg but has a white egg father with a BCM hen...will i get an olive egger or will that white grandad dilute the egg color? Thanks in advance!

Here are most of the colors I am getting! I don't have pictured my darkest olive or a pale pink tinted white, but these are the other colors!

6 babies hatched from eggs I bought from a road side stand. (I set 7, and 2 of mine. one was clear.)The black chick hatched out of the green egg. I named her Olive. She is very sweet.
