The Olive-Egger thread!

I've got ~13 OE eggs in the incubator set to hatch on May 5th. I am using a dark egg laying Amber Link who lays daily large brown eggs daily crossed with a University of Arkansas Blue Cockerel who is homozygous for the blue egg gene. Looking forward to see what feather coloring I'll get. Planning to keep on the blue chicks and sell all the black/white chickens that hatch.

I am hoping for blue with read leakage on my Olive Eggers kind of like this.

Trying to replace this hen (Red Sex Link x Blue egg cockerel) who laid a nice Olive colored egg. She was one of my most productive hens only skipping 1 day out of the month. Unfortunately a raccoon got her :-(.
I have Blue the f-1 that has the blue/green gen

e have two from him giving me
I have a Olive hen that looks like her folks I got my f-1 cockerel she was the only pullet of 4.... the one you lost very sweet hen
why is we we only loose those we are most fond of.. funny mine look more brown in the photo

X2 - Truly olive colored. (Looks like they should have a pimento on the end.)

X3 - and I love the pimento comment!!!!!!

I hope this isn't too off topic, the thread seemed to be a good place to ask my question. Do bought my first EE's about 4 months ago and think they are so beautiful. However, one of them hasn't gotten a beard yet. Do you think it ever will? Her sister got her beard months ago.

Is it common to have Easter Eggers that do not develop their beards? I know they are mutts, so I am not totally surprised, just am not that familiar with these "breeds". For fun here is another picture of "Sweet Cheeks".

Thanks! I used breeds people don't commonly think of for the cross because above all I wanted high production of eggs. It worked out! Hopefully the ladies from my current hatch will be just as good!

Is the sister the one on the far right? Opposite of "sweet cheeks"? It is a bit blurry but it looks like she has a slight beard? Maybe not.

The bearding gene is incomplete dominant if I remember right. 2 copies of the gene yields a larger beard if memory serves me. A single copy will yield a smaller beard.

I can typcally tell at hatch if a chicken is going to be bearded and if not it will not develop later unfortunately. I love the feather color pattern of EEs anyway though.
