Lensters, so my "golden olive egger" (which is the result of a cross of an EE hen to a French Black Copper Marans roo, and then bred back to the Marans roo) would actually be called an F1b? Is this correct?
Quote:
Probably, since an EE isn't a purebred we have to get a little deeper into the definitions. In this case we are concerned with egg color so as long as the EE is homozygous for blue eggs (having two of the blue egg genes) then yes. If the EE is a cross to something that didn't carry the blue egg gene then the EE would be an F1 already.
First Olive Eggers from Wynette's eggs hatched this morning! They have cute little feathered legs. The one in the middle is grey and the other two darker.
Hmmmmm, will the husband notice a few more chickens? I for sure want the blue in the middle. So now I'm failing at chicken math - I give you 1 silver penciled rock and you give me 3 olive eggers and an Icelandic egg to hatch.
I think I'm the one that has chickens coming out my ears!
ETA: Man, I'll never have to hatch again. You'll keep me stocked in chickens!
