Yes, it will work, however most Cuckoo Marans have very poor egg color, so you're likely to get a simple pale green or a pale olive.

Well I have been waiting for my 2 olive eggers pullets to lay. One just started and I just got a speckled brown egg. Very disappointing

. I still have one more chance. Then I will have to wait for my 3 pullets from RUTH, but they will not be ready til January.

if i buy olive eggs for hatching, and they come to me in an olive color, i know they're not 1st generation (otherwise the eggs would be blue....right? or maybe brown) but if they are already olive, what generation could they be? 2nd? 3rd? etc? and what color will the newly hatched chicks lay once they get to laying age? i want to buy some eggs, but not if they're just gonna grow up and lay brown eggs.

That's just the thing, they may and may not lay olive eggs. Depends on the mixture of chickens, as it lookslike most on here are mixing to Marans, chances are that you might get some that lay brown and dark brown eggs. I stick to the Easter Egger chickens because you have a better chance of getting colored eggs, some already lay an olive egg.

thanks.....i have 2 EE already (which i love) and i've ordered 3 more for the spring. my 2 girls just happen to lay the same color....a light green (not a minty green). ok, i'll take ur advice. i've placed a bid on ebay for 6 olive eggs and so far i'm the winner, but it's still got a day to go. i won't bid anymore. if i lived out in the country, i'd make my OWN olive eggers!

Hi all,

I am new to this thread and new to olive-eggers. We just "adopted" our first one. She's a really sweet girl we got from Gryeyes (thank you!!). Her name's Olivia.

Olivia is really pretty and has a really sweet disposition. She was hatched the first week of August, so I don't anticipate any eggs from her for a while, maybe February/March. I'm anxious to see what color eggs she gives us, though. She is my first olive egger.

I am not sure what her parentage is, but she has the colorings/markings similar to a blue wyandotte a friend of mine has. She looks like she may be an EE X blue wyandotte. What do you guys think? I could be mistaken, but I think she came from one of Wynette's eggs.

BTW, the pretty girl behind her is the light brahma we also got from gryeyes. Both girls are doing well here and really spoiled already.
