The Olive-Egger thread!

Hey all,

I have a chick! After two power outages ( on like, day two and then day three!) I have one OE hatched, day 20. And three more have pipped! This always amazes me! Today is day 21. I will be happy with what ever the outcome. Well, I hope for a friend for the first one!

A golden rumpless boy I had for dinner a few days ago

A pair of duckwing x wheaten Marans.

A pair of blue cuckoo x black copper Marans. Notice both are tailed, and the cockerel has a single comb.


The Olive Eggers in the incubator right now are from the same parentage as the last pair shown, only this time I'm hoping for tufts and actual barring. Since I'm using a male with only one barred allele, I'm only getting a 50/50. So far no barred birds, but I've only tried once. They make for GREAT meat birds though. Notice the breast on the tailed blue male, that's a 16 week old male and he's HUGE. The credit mostly goes to the Araucana father.

Illia..........I'd love to get some of your Araucana crossed olive eggers sometime. I don't have the space right now though, with all these barnevelder chicks I'm growing out.

They're almost shaped like eggs...egg-shaped olive eggers...maybe after my coffee I can come up with something more catchy...

Great pics Illia. That roo you ate looks like he was trying to stay under the radar, look like a pullet. LOL no mistaking that beautiful roo plumage. He was a beauty!

Yep! I had four as of last night! I woke up to three more this morning!! (Seven, yikes!) I put them in the brooder, and low and behold, I can hear another peeping inside the egg! All I can say is unbelievable! It was really cold here during the storms that lead to the power outage. The incubator got down to 57 twice! Life never ceases to amaze me!
