Has anyone noticed how some have that prominent white stripe across the top of the eye and some don't? Is there any chance that this could be used for sexing? I realize that's a long shot, but I thought I'd ask anyway...

Here's my OEs that just hatched this past weekend--

They are all blues--a splash Ameraucana roo over FBC Marans--even though some are very dark. My roo throws some very dark blues. I also noticed the two lighter ones have a prominent white stripe and the two darkest ones have no coloring around the eye (whole face/head in black). One has very faint light feathers above the eye. I vaguely remember from last year's hatch of 4 OEs that the lightest one ended up being a female while the other darker ones were all males...

Glad to hear your hatch worked out, Imagesoart! I am especially excited to hear about it because I just won an auction for some of alicefelldown's eggs!

I'd love to see what your chicks look like.

I really want some olive eggers. I tried crossing my EE roo with my nice dark Welsummer hens. Of 20 eggs, only ONE had anything developing (and it was an EE egg, not the Welsummer). All the others were clear. The lone fertile egg is still in the incubator, due to hatch tonight or tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I see the rooster mating the hens all the time. I'm going to give him one more chance, and throw a few of my eggs in when I try to hatch alicefelldown's eggs. This will only be my second attempt at hatching, and I worry about eggs being shipped half-way across the world (or so it seems). I can't wait for them to arrive. New incubator arrives this afternoon!

Sorry, pushed the button too soon.

What I meant to say was, I am going out to the brooder and will take pictures!

They are some of the peppiest chicks
I have ever had. Also, and I don't know why, they are the shiniest little chicks too. Be right back with the pictures!

Interesting, I was wondering where those colors were coming from. If you have purebred "any kind of chicken" do you band their legs to keep track of who's who or how old the chicks are? I have begun the process of certain breed specific hatching and I don't want siblings and parents bred back to each other and I thought banding would be a good idea.
I tried to copy and paste this but it wouldn't work, but here a a selection of the eggs I get and my ducks are now laying like crazy.

Had 2 Wheaten, Blue Wheaten, or Splash Wheaten Olive Eggers just hatch out. I'm excited to find out which!

Also had 1 blue Olive Egger hatch out. I hope, oh I hope, it is tufted! I'm still expecting 3 more to hatch today.

Hey everyone!
I'm new to BYC. I'm looking for some olive egger chicks but I can't seem to find any. I live in Nebraska and haven't been able to find any or anyone that will ship any. Does anyone have any suggestions?
