The Olive-Egger thread!

I'd sure be in the market late this year or early, early next year for a couple olive egg laying hens (or pullets) and a roo. Does anyone know a good source for such?

Since I have limited space (coopwise)

for chickens it doesn't seem cost effective to buy a bator to hatch more chicks than I have room.

Question for the experts. This is my OE roo that I hatched out in April. As you can tell he has a large single comb. He hatched out from a dark olive egg that was a few generations in the making. If I breed him with my Ameraucanas will their offspring give me olive eggers? Thanks.

They should, mostly because he came from a dark egg lineage. Because he has a single comb though he probably doesn't carry the blue egg gene, which means if he was a hen he woudn't lay an olive colored egg. As a papa to make more olive eggers though, he should work fine. Just make sure to pair him with hens who have pea combs and then only keep those chicks hatched with pea combs in hopes that they'll be pullets that lay olive eggs.
