Oh my word, Christie Ray - that pic of the blue chick & your daughter is ADORABLE! HOLY COW! You should submit that for the POW - seriously!

Just wanted to share that I have a couple of olive egger pullets hatched last fall that have just begun to lay. I got the most GORGEOUS colored egg yesterday, my mouth dropped open - I've hatched a ton of olive eggers, but THIS one is the prettiest yet. I took this with my cell phone and it seriously washed out the color, DARNIT! (I lost my digital camera a few months ago and I keep hoping it'll turn back up...I just can't afford a new one, but I'm going to eBay to see if I can find a used one today because I can't live with my cell phone camera!!), but the egg is ALMOST the color of the grass (which is why I put it next to the grass).

Congrats! It is purdy! I just put a ton of first gen olive eggers in the bator yesterday. Some are really nice Marans eggs, she needs to breed that girl. Got more coming too

You know, it's so nice to have a fun breed like olive eggers, where there is no standard to follow, and we simply love their gorgeous eggs!

I love to colored eggs. I saved the Marans rooster from your eggs and have him over 7 EE's (one is white). So now with the chicks I get from your Olive Eggs, should they go back to a Marans or a Lavender Ameraucana Rooster? I want emerald green eggs.

It's kind of a crapshoot - you really need to see what they are currently laying. If you breed back to the Marans cock bird too many times, you end up with a dark brown egg. Especially if that Marans was bred for VERY dark egg genetics. It seems almost, for olive eggers, like it would be better to use a Marans cock bird that came from a 4 or 5 egg rather than a 6 or 7.

He came from an egg similar in color to what is shown below, which is also from your eggs. The EE eggs are who the rooster is in with, the 3 week wait to hatch is killing me.

Hmmm..............well, that's not DARK dark, but it's fairly dark....you actually may get a VERY nice shade of dark olive from the offspring!

I have a pen full of feathered legged BCM . Some of the chicks are hatched with feathers on legs. And they lose them later. I notice one of the splash is getting his back.
Maybe its the muddy pastures they get bugs from.
The bcm are hard to breed and hard to hatch.
I like the olive eggers Have some in the bator. now
