The Olive-Egger thread!

BCM roo (big good looking guy except for a squirrel tail with few white feathers showing, the line lays dark #5+ eggs) over a Wheaton as stated,,,,not sure of the Wheaton meaning if there is any blue in her background,,,she was the one of 3 eggs that hatched for my friend out of a dozen he had shipped in, the other 2 are both Wheaton as well

I only had 4 blue eggs in the first hatch,,,one a no go, these 2 and the 3rd is a black colored roo showing the Americana splashes of color,,,he too has a nice beard and tuffs

I'll post some current pics in a couple of days

I think they are gorgeous also

I got my F2 Olive Eggers from 'Ruth'. I believe she is crossing BLUE copper marans to BBS ameracanas. I have two cockerels with similar coloring and a splash pullet. The boys both have funny combs. They are a combo of straight and pea combs. The pullet is splash and barely has a comb at 14 weeks, so I think it will be a pea comb. They all have muffs and beards.

The boys are our least favorite personality wise. I makes me think the Marans are kind of jerks. I never had a Marans, but I think the Ameracanas are nice. The pullet is nicer, but very skittish compared to my other breeds.

Any one find that with their Marans/Marans crosses?

I had a Duh moment today.

I keep finding pale olive eggs, very pretty, very exciting to see. But why am I getting so many? I wanted another line of olive eggers to go with my FBCM x EE and now I have olives coming out my ears!!

Because my EE crossed with RIR and other brown eggers results in a green egg. DUH!!! Not blue!

ANd I thought I needed more green eggs.

Love the pretty splash pullet, naturespace.

I have an OE rooster, but I don't know if he is an F1 or F2, because I bought a bunch of mixed hatching eggs. I really like him because he is afraid of me. He replaced our EE attack rooster.

This OE rooster is not very good at wooing the girls, - he chases and drags them down, but I think he had a hard time moving into a pre-existing flock. He was a lone hatcher and had to be raised in isolation with the broody because he got attacked. At least the eggs are fertile now. That was not happening with the EE

I just crossed our OE rooster with a mix of dark brown, green, blue, and olive layers to see what I get.

I have both marans and ameraucans roosters, each from several breeders. My marans are easy going confident birds that tend to rule the barnyard. The Ameracana--are just like the marans personality wise. I have about 9 grown marans roosters that free range and only one youngeter bit at my pant legs for a week, then stopped with a little persuasion.

Temperaments can vary line to line as well.

My blk am roo is skittish as all get out......so are the 2 hens.....the lav. more than the blk, but my fbcm roo just stays out of my way w/o being crazy. They are both really good with the girls and once caught are fine.
