The Olive-Egger thread!

CHick--

THe eggs from blue shellx brown shell will give an olive green, it could be very pale olive to medium olive. I have many hens from EE x RIR/BR roosters that are very pale olive green commonly referred to as green. If you cross a EE with a marans ( chocolate paint) , the eggs are a darker olive. I expect the cuckoo marans to give a light olive as my FBCM x EE give a medium olive. All very pretty. ( cuckoo marans have a much lighter coating than the FBCM; BCM have the darkest paint)

I can use the olive egger hen and breed back to a FBCM and the eggs will be even darker for those that make an olive egg. Remember in this later generation the egg colors will be a variety of colors, not all will be the dark olive green.

Ok so in essence there is no way to make a sex linked olive egger per say darn it that would be sooo cool

Quote: The barred rock might dilute the color to just green or you might get more brown eggs. IDK really... You might want to try the cuckoo marans pullets/hens for the sex links.

Quote: Yeap that is how I do it! I have an EE that came from BR roo x EE she lays a green egg she is now in with my Blue Copper Marans so she and her sister make me sex links. Somebody, no sure right now who, as Barred Olive Eggers and you can use pullets from that to make sex links. Use a reg Olive Egger roo over the barred Olive Egger and voila sex link Olive Eggers.

Hi!

I have some Olive Eggers, about 18 weeks old. I can't wait for them to start laying so I can see what color their eggs will be! I give them a pep talk everyday, but I doesn't seem to be working so far (any time now!). I'm not sure what mix they are, any Ideas?

The four on the right are my Olive Egger. We had to give away Fernando- the roo.

I would think if you could find some good Wheaton Marans who lay a dark egg they could be crossed with a Wheaton Am and the chicks could be sexed once they start to get wing feathers since Wheatons cockerels and pullets feather out in different colors
