The Olive-Egger thread!

Then where did the pretty green on the right bottom come from, that's the egg I want.
No, I think they mean that if you take the first OE egg and breed those chicks back to brown egg layer you get the second color egg. Then if you breed those chicks back to brown again you get the 3rd egg. The next row is olive egger bred back to blue egg layer each time. Third row is breeding 1st generation OE to 1st generation OE will give you the 2nd egg. Those bred back to each other will give you the bright green.

What is CL? I thought that was cream legbar.... cuckoo marans lay a dark egg, just not really dark.
Sorry. I read that wrong. for some reason i thought you asked about a crele penedesenca and Cuckoo Marans.
Doh.

So I think a Cream Legbar father and Cuckoo Marans mother would work, but I'm not sure.

crele penedesenca x cream legbar. we should all try it lol
not really, all you need is a Black Copper Maran mated to a barred olive egger(somebody was working with them) keep breeding back to BCM and after you have the darkness of the egg color you want just do a sibling cross(best crele looking hen x best crele looking roo) and out of this hatch you will be able to tell the roos from the girls

Quote: Here is what I just noticed with the pea comb. I was looking at the pullets and it seems that the pea combs are associated with beards and muffs. All my pullets that have single comb, have no beards and muffs, but are lightly feathered on the leg. Are you noticing this also?

I have not seen a pattern. I have had straight combs with beards and muff and pea combs with not beards and muffs. My first easter eggers were beard and muffless. My sexlinked olive eggers will not have a beard or muff... the EE hens don't.

I have a SBEL in with my Barred Rock to make me some barred EE. I need them for the spring sexlink crosses. I can then use them for making olive eggers too. I will only keep the ones with beards and muffs. May not be that big of a deal since the Ameraucana roos will fix that, I hope

I think the beard and muffs are dominate and should show with one copy.

This is one of my Olive Egger Roosters, With a straight comb and muffs and beard...wattles too. The Olive Egger hen above has straight comb and muffs and a beard but lays a dark Marans colored egg.Notice the feathered legs. I also have some in a grow out area that aren't laying yet. I hope to track the association in my flock to muffs and beard with straight comb to egg color for a more selective breeding program.

Yeah but a cream legbar rooster and crele penedesenca rooster look almost identical and are double barred. Crele penedesenca hens and cream legbar hens are single barred.
you should theoretically get the same cross. You will get a cross that is more heat resistant than a maran and penedesenca tend to lay more eggs than Marans
