The Olive-Egger thread!

Could anyone tell me what color eggs a chicken may have if you breed a pink egg laying EE ( who has a pea comb and slate legs) to a third generation olive egger roo? Would they just all be brown eggs or is there a chance there is a hidden blue gene in the roo?

The blue egg genes are dominate ... how knows. I would not think you have any shot really at Olive Eggs. If he is 3rd gen what are the other 2 gens for the crosses. If it was a BCM for the other gens he is going to have very dark egg genes.

Yea, each generation was breed back to BCM. I guess he is 7/8 BCM and 1/8 Ameraucana. Oh well....What if he is breed back to my other EE who lays a light sea foam green egg?

My new Olive Eggers are ready to lay any day! What the hawk didn't get or I didn't cull. Out of 89 chicks hatched I have 7 OE pullets and 3 OE Roos. Or rather I hope they are OE Dad was a Maran mom's are all green egg laying EE's. I am only keeping 1 roo. I was wanting to go all blue. But they are the first ones the hawk picks off.

MR. friendly He is my OE keeper

Skky an OL The red one is an EE Roo in the back Blue copper maran

OE roo he needs a home

OE roo Mr. Sneaky he also needs a home. I thought I gave him away twice. But he keeps showing up.

Blue Bell OE with BCM and EE's

Luna OE the little dark one is Uno Have another that looks like her too both OE. The blonde one in the very back OE I have 2 of them.

If you breed a Ameraucana roo to Welsummer hens, the progeny should have beards and cheek puffs, right?

Yes and no. If the Ameraucanas have 2 copies of those genes then in theory yes... since it is dominate... I think. Not all Ams have 2 copies... they should, but don't always. EE are a toss up.

I just got what I thought was an EE but now I think it has a rose comb and is feathering like a Wyandotte. But it has very dark slate blue legs and muffs. Could this be an OE? It hatched from a blue egg. If it is an EE with a rose comb would it still have colored eggs or would they be brown?
