The Omega Rocks: The Last & Ultimate Barred Plymouth Rock Flock

Yup, just released this video about that subject featuring these little heathens. its not just the head spot, but the shade of down as well as the leg fronts (dark wash down the front or not). And some head spot are not that easy to judge. Check it out, Kelly.
Gosh so adorable. I’ll take a peek in a bit, just heading out to do evening chores feed horses.

But it will give me bad ideas of shoving that egg of Blanche I have safely stashed since yesterday, under that little turkey silkie broody of mine 🤭

Well the chickens are on their own, I have never provided any supplemental heat once they are older than 6 weeks. And while the temperature might fall into the upper 20s, at least it won't freeze inside the house. I'll have to see if I can get the generator situation fixed tomorrow. Our weather warning was extended until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, and the roads are covered with slush so once the temperature drops tonight they are going to go back to solid ice. The only thing I hate worse than an ice storm is a tornado.
Apparently we may have had the tornado not far from me this evening. Sure came in fast. Thankfully all is well as far as I know. I hope all will be ok with you 🙏

That was awesome thanks!

Congratulations! They all look healthy, active and so precious!

I may have to play your video out at the coop tomorrow for my hens. If some of my girls hear all that peeping someone will want babies of their own. 🤭
It's not unheard of! I'm afraid that when these go out to the barn in a couple of weeks, my overly broody buff bantam Cochin girls will go back to being broody all over again. Cricket was broody for about three long months and just as these were hatching, she snapped out of it, but her daughter is beginning to show signs again herself. And my little blue Iris is very prone as well. Her sire is my main buff bantam Cochin rooster so she has the broody gene in spades. My splash hens have never gone broody in their four years of life, nor their daughters, only the buffs. You never know when you throw young chicks in there, though. Someone new could take up the cause, but I hope not.

I have several that go broody. I don't want to set off a chain of events. I need a few to keep laying eggs for me. I am picky. I only want 1-2 broodies at a time. lol
Broody can be contagious around here!
I'm the same way. My Partridge/Blue Partridge Brahmas were the same way. Two of them tag-teamed being broody. Their first three years, each of them was broody once each quarter, so that's 12 broody periods in that time and they were almost always allowed to do it. It was easy to sell the chicks from them, even the males, thankfully. And that doesn't count my Marvin Stukel line as well as the Jill Burk line of Barred Rocks who were broody on rare occasion, though most of those waited until they were older to brood. Thankfully, the Partridge Brahma hen that is still alive at 9 years old hasn't gone broody for about three or four years. Guess she was over motherhood, finally.
I don't think that this Jamie Duckworth line tends toward broodiness, though I don't mind one every couple of years. Generally, the exhibition types are not overly broody, if at all. I would rather choose when I want chicks and have table eggs instead. The bantam Cochin hens will go broody often, but they can't sit on more than maybe three of these big BR eggs.

Thanks, Rusty. They are such little hoodlums already! That barring gene makes sexing so much little easier. Right now, one of those little monsters is chirping his/her head off, literally calling for someone to come. When I called back, saying "I'm here!", it shut up immediately. Rotten already, LOL. It really makes getting anything done impossible without interruption, especially getting back to the quilt I've been dragging my feet on since December. I remember when I had a brooder of chicks in my bedroom and was attempting to finish a quilt. Every time I started the machine, they began chirping loudly. Every woman with a toddler knows how that goes. :gig
