Chapter 8:
The next morning, I woke up with Bella in my room. Or rather, Bella woke me up.
"Since its before you need to get ready for school, can you read the book?" she asked.
"Give me some time to wake up, will you?" I looked at the clock. It was 2:30 AM.
"Bella, get back to bed. It's 2:30 AM, and I'm tired." Bella said nothing, but yawned and went to her room.
When I woke up for real, I got ready for the day and was ready in record time. Bella, of course, wanted me to read the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but I barely had any time anyways.
"Bella, I have one minute. I need to go." I said, putting on my backpack.
We got to school, and to my surprise there was a new student there. Oddly enough, she was in all my classes, and in every class, she was introduced. She had brown hair and blue eyes and her name was Caroline. The introduction went more or less like this. The teacher always started.
"Hi class, if your couldn't tell, we have a new student! Her name's Caroline." Caroline would then say how it was nice to meet us and then we sat down to learn whatever the topic was. The school day wasn't too memorable, other than the fact that we studied the Civil War in a hands on activity. We had to get a coded message across to the Confederacy without being caught. Doing so took extreme ninja skills, and if you were caught you were interrogated as to where it was, but if the teacher guesses wrong, you were let through. Our team, made up of Caroline, me, and two boys who I think were named Joe and Will, got through. There was no real difference between who got through and who didn't, but Neveah and Ayala had to make a big deal out of it, that is, until the teacher told them that Confederate spies didn't brag about spying within the earshot of the Union Army.
After the school day was over, Caroline dragged me aside.
"Have I seen you somewhere before? I mean, not in school?"
"I don't remember meeting you, unless..."
"Unless what?"
"Unless you were an NPC in the video game Omicron and somehow came to life, which is very unlikely."
"Um..." Caroline seemed unsure of how to start, then suddenly started talking.
"My older brother is a computer genius and the day Omicron came out, he hacked into my account while I was playing and somehow altered the game so I was an NPC in Cardinal Town. He made me an enemy and I was actually in a coma because of the hack, but he made a secret quest where if someone got defeated by me, they could remove the glitch, which was tied to a burned cross in the tower. Apparently you were the first to do that and you beat the secret quest, so here I am." Caroline finished her explanation and all I could do was sit in shock.
"Your brother DID that?"
"Well, he was angry with me at the time."
"Wow. Oh yeah, thank my eight-year old sister for getting me to the side quest."
"You let her play?"
"She got on without my permission."
"Ah. By the way, wasn't it a crazy coincidence that you named my NPC form my real name?"
"Yeah!" I said, smiling.
"If you want, I can meet you on Omicron at 3:30 today."
"Sure. I have to go though, my mom's here." I said, seeing my car.
When I got home, I did my homework right away. Bella kept trying to get me to read to her, but I finally put a rule that the book was only for bedtime or if she was scared. Bella tried pretending to be scared, but I wasn't convinced. I've known her for eight years, after all.
Once my homework was done, I got on Omicron and waited for Caroline to log on.
