Planning 8x8 with a small 10x20 run for this year then expanding run size next year.
Our Chickens will be in the coop most of the day with about 5-6 hours a day of time in the run or free ranging once they get a little bigger.
Planning on eventually having around 25 laying hens to supply eggs for our family and sell a few to cover feed costs. Currently have 7 hens and 3 Roosters( i think, they are about 3 weeks old) and a friend has set a hen today on 14 eggs. I also have a small tractor built from a swingset that I will move some of them into on the weekends to help keep the freerangers close by.

so the million dollar question is, What is the one thing you would add or do different in your coop? I am starting construction Friday and looking for insight before needing hindsight.

Nests on one side and roost on the other! We are tearing out nests on the east side and building roosts in their place. Should have done my homework, like you are doing, BEFORE hubby built boxes... Live and learn. The other thing would be to have already added windows, we are doing that too!

Good luck and post pics as you go :-)
