The "opposing" council-members [ridiculous] statements (must read!)

I would say for that one the cost would be prohibitive in both time and money.
As a busy parent I know I don't have time each day to drive out to a farm to pick up the couple of eggs I get from my 3 chickens each day.
The cost of petrol would most likely be more than the eggs are worth.
Perhaps if the councilman was referring to a fairly large poultry set up you could do that but (I imagine) you are only asking to be able to keep a small flock.
Add your time, petrol and the rent to the farmer and that makes it a fairly uneconomical proposal.

HTH!

Thank you!!! I used this! :)

Here is a thread with link/info (Columbia Mo Center For Urban Agriculture).
And info. gleaned by Overland Park, KS petitioner. (maybe you ought to have the reporter call down to Columbia, MO Animal Control, as well).

WOW exactly what I was thinking about the deer too!! Hunters around here will hang a deer out to dress it or have dead deers in their trailers or trucks in their driveways... I'm going to look into the Columbia, MO info too....

Ignorance does not always need a direct response but....

"Does anyone have a dog or cat which would be kept at a secure off sight location? How far away would you keep your pets?"

You might want to remind the council, through the interview, that they can be voted out in the next election. Follow the above suggestions and hammer them with facts about small flocks. I don't have chickens right now, but encourage my neighbors girls to my yard to help with bug control and they clean up fallen seed under my bird feeders. As you can see, everyone on this site can go on and on about the advantages of chickens!

Oh my, these people are ridiculous, and they are everywhere. I so admire people who can be respectful in the face of this, plow on, and get their way in the end. That's not me. I just hide my little chickens and keep my mouth shut. Oh by the way, did you hear Bill Gates on 60 Minutes last night mention how wonderful and amazing fertilizer is? He read a book about it. I was dumbfounded. I'm sure it was written by Monsanto or some thing like that. How sad for the world.

I am trying to come up with a respectful response for the patch article in regards to this: Councilman: You can actually go out to the country and RENT a piece of farm land. That would be a great option. You can rent a piece of land from a farmer and you can build a coop and raise your chickens there. Then you can drive out every day and take care of your chickens and collect your eggs.

Any ideas??
Maybe ask them If they have any pets cats/dogs. If they do, ask if they would rent a piece of land for thier dog/cat to live and visit it every day

I don't think so
