"I think it's been about a week and a half since I escaped," he said, continuing to walk with Jinx's guidance and support. Though he had been getting weaker by the day since the week before, he'd felt energized ever since Jinx found him. He felt like there was some kind of connection between them, but he would have to focus more on that later.

Jinx raised an eyebrow and tossed her hair over her shoulder. "Well, we are almost to my home. Once we get there you can have something to eat and drink." She grinned. "And you can have a bath."

Seth returned the grin and said "That'll be great! I hope your parents won't mind, though."
 
Jinx ducked her head, staring at the ground. "My parents and siblings don't-- they don't live with me. I was kicked out of my village, because someone saw me shift out of my squirrel form. My family would have come with me, but I told them to stay. They're normal. It's safer that way."

"I understand," Seth said, his thoughts deep in memory ,"the same thing happened to me, except that I was supposed to be executed along with my parents and siblings. I was able to break free and save my siblings and mother, but my father... he didn't make it. My old girlfriend had tried to kill me before I got away. She'd raised her bow and shot an arrow that would have gone right into my chest... if my dad hadn't jumped in the way and stopped it. I ran to him and tried to help him, but with his dying breath, he told me to leave him and save the others. My family lives in a remote part of the forest and they're about as happy as someone could be after what we went through." Seth looked up and thought he caught a glimpse of lumber through the trees. He had one hand on Jinx's shoulders for support, so he lifted his free arm to point and said "is that it there?"
