The peas are out of their pen

It will take a while before she gives you eggs depending on how soon she matted when you got her, but also I am not sure if the stress of moving her or the new environment will make her not lay? Not sure but because that young male with the eye feathers has nothing better to be compared to like an adult peacock then he has a good chance of being able to successfully breed.

His eye feathers are stripped because on a yearling or two year old peacock the train feathers are stripped. His are stripped but they are not the regular green stripped train feathers a peacock his age would have.

Thanks for the info,
i was thinking the same thing , about the laying deal .
The male she was with had a full blown beautiful train

so if peas have good memory the peacock i got with her ain't got a chance.

It really does not matter at least if the deal falls threw on the pied chicks i want i have something new this year and next year i should get chicks from this set if i keep them together, i am kinda scared to let them out later cause i did not raise them here.

Thanks for the photo and info.
I got a good look at his train and most of the eye feathers look ok .

Wished i could see him fan he has alota eyes mabe after i add some panels and make the pen bigger.

Thanks for the info on turning them out,i may never turn them out ,i am thinking that birds that free range do better if they are started early,as they are more cautious .

I have a 40 by 60 area thats 16 high in center area to put them if i decide to keep them penned will just have to see how it goes at the very least i will not turn them loose till winter when breeding season is over.

The Peas are doing great, they are all over my place and i can't find them alot of times but if i call them they do come it just takes sometime for them to get to me as they have been foraging way back in the woods, i do worry about them and figure i may loose one sooner or later to a big cat or the wolf as they go on the trails i have made with my four-wheeler and they are in the high brush in some areas.

They have been learning to take up for themselves when it comes to food and don't let the other flocks eat all their treats like they use to.

Master. P had a problem with one of the lavender male guineas, that guinea would grab him by his wing and hold on for dear life while Master ran trying to get him to let go, i finely got tired of The craze guin and put him in time out here are the resulting photos.

The only problems i have with the peas is the easment ,we just had it blacktoped a few weeks agoi and now they walk right down the middle of it, i am afraid they will keep walking till they get to the end as they seem to think it is like the yellow brick road .LOL
With the help of my herding dogs i have been able to catch them, on the road a few time and turn them back twards the farm and so far so good I think LOL

Chicken Obcessed : your photos are great looks like you have too much fun with your feathered friends. Pete and Ethel are parents to 20 eggs I,ve quit gathering them so maybe she,ll set and be a Mama. I,ve aquired 3 yearling male green necks. They are getting prettier by the day. They are not as friendly as I'd like for them to be, hope they will warm up over time. They were raised by their parents not much human contact it will be awhile if they get out of the pen,if ever.

WOW 20 peas eggs is alot ,what kind are they and did your peas lay them?
I know how ya feel about letting them out, the peas raised here have done great but i am afraid the older pair i got last month might fly away and take the ones i raised here with them
ep.gif
.
I am waiting till after laying season to let my other pair out but i haven't gotten any eggs from my new hen yet so i don't know what her laying season will be, i can tell she had been bred befor i got her ,she was missing neck feathers and they have grown back in now so mabe the 5 mile trip to my house has upset her laying anything this year will see.

I let the other pair of peas out a few days ago and they are doing great.
The Pied female Named Geegee stays close to the area she was penned and seems to prefer the company of the guineas and chickens just as much as the peas company so she has not yet gone on any of the other peas walk about and roost with the guineas instead of the other peas.

The male Mr perty seems to have taken the roll of the leader and he got it without a fight, the peas follow him around or mabe they are just looking out for him as they have taken him to all the different areas as if they were showing him around.

I am so glade i have a white pea as it makes it much easier to locate them, but then again they are almost like ghost ,i go in to get them a treat and come rite back out and they are gone, next i see them all the way across the front pasture flying up into a tree, i do not know how they get around so fast when they always appear to be casually strolling along and in no hurry.

Here's some photos of them learning about the area and just having a good life

First day
DSC00263.jpg

This is an area i have been working on in my ever quest to keep the woods clear for my flocks as it is safer for them.
Anyway the peas are taking their first walkabout together - Geegee the pied hen.
DSC00331.jpg

I wonder what she is showing him,i just pulled that tree back up 6 years, a hurricane blew it over and i finely got all the firewood i wanted and was able to turn it back up right.
