Raising Layers and Meat Birds in the City
I'm finding that this size is also my preference.
The first time I raised CX I wanted big big big, and I got it (6.5-8.5 lbs dressed in 8 weeks). But the second time I focused on a more normal growth rate / healthier birds and they ended up being more in the 4-5.5 pound range. I like that I can more easily roast a whole bird (the last batch were too big and wouldn't cook through), and the cut up pieces are a more normal size. It's just a good size, so I'm with you on this, Jeff.
