Eureka!!! I FINALLY figured out the perfect, easy way to support splayed feet!!! I had a silkie hatch this weekend, and I put some paper towel under the light, but it wandered rigtht off onto the slick paper and I didnt find it until an hour later, already splayed. Wasn't born that way... but now it was. I put it back in the incubator in a mug with a sheet of paper towel lining it. That has always been my cure. Didn't cure it. WELL... NOW for the good part! I have tried so many materials to splint feet. Tape, felt, ribbon, yarn, you name it. I saw a rubber (medical, not dishwashing) glove and a light came on. I cut a finger at a diagonal that I thought would fit the chick's legs, support them and allow him to walk, and I put the whole thing around one leg, twisted it several times, and put the other smaller loop on the other foot. It stretches a little and is soft, no hard edges, no adhesive, you can make it any size you want to fit whatever size legs your bird has... I can't wait to see if it works on lovebirds!

Im trying to visualize it but I can't lol. Do you have any pictures?

really bad pics, but hopefully you can get the gist of it from them. I know, I know, hideous pink toes, but it can still be a pet for someone.

Thank you THANK YOU THANK YOU! We had a straggler hatch Sunday and it has this. I came here hoping for a fix and here you were! I'll probably try both.

Just had to come back and let you know how fast this worked! We put the band on her this evening, got her settled in a nice warm lined coffee cup and let her rest for a few hours. DS (he's 10) did some physical therapy with her before bed. About midnight I got up and got her out to get her to start to eat. She was walking pretty well already so I put her back in her warm spot with just the bands. She's now sleeping on her tummy (for the first time) and seems very happy!

Thanks!

You should see that stinker today. She's running around like all the other chicks, no band, nothing to indicate there was ever anything wrong.

We named her Scrappy.

Best.tip.ever.

Mmmm, I have a stupid question..... What exactly is "splay"? Like they did the splits type of thing? My 6 week old turkey has not been able to walk for over a week. Could this be a solution to the problem? As far as I know he has never been in that position thoe. He lives on the grass/dirt outside.
