Our pigs squeal when they see us across the pasture. One of the females dances and paces until my husband comes over and gives her a good hard scratch around her face and ears. She is a big hairy stinky bucket of love for him.

So I just have a general hog question because I find them vastly amusing and oddly humanlike in their behavior: why are some of them hairy and others not?

is this a "cold climate breed" thing?

Well, to answer your question, yes, they are just like humans; some are too lazy to shave their body hair, while others are not

But really, I'm not sure..

There are some good stories in this thread now.

The only pig I would ever consider keeping would be the kind that hunt down truffles. But then, truffles from Michigan don't demand the price that truffles from Italy fetch.

Sorry guys but I have to defend pigs {thats PBPs}. I have two and they are very clean but this is because they live in the house and the only time they squeal is when its time for them to eat. lol
