The Pita Pinta eggs are going fertile! I have 6 developing in the incubator so I can start getting eggs out to folks now!

I hope I get two pullets out of this hatch!
That's great news!

The Barred Hollands I was shipped were wrapped in Bubble Wrap and tightly packed with Pine shavings as filler to the box. The lady shipping them says that a well established breeder shipped eggs to her that way and she has been doing it that way ever since with great success. (Our own results do vary though but may be more due to rough handling by post office)

do they get bent side ways though its kind of wierd It wasnt a depression or bent over like you might expect from a roost it was like someone had placed a thumb on the side of the keel and made a dent in it that created a little U in the keel (not concave along the line the line ran crooked) maybe debi has a better idea I only felt it in 2 -3 birds.

The boys we processed Sat went into the freezer yesterday. I thought about taking a pic of one of the crooked keel bones but with the way they were vacuum sealed, I couldn't get a decent shot. I'll take one when we thaw one to eat. Most of the ones we saw were just like Chris said. They had a dented area in the middle of the keel. I did see a couple others that looked different. One was at an angle instead of straight up the body. We processed a few young ones that weighed around 3 lb processed but most of them were 3.5-4.5 lb processed. The oldest one was probably around 30 wks. So, I have some work to do on increasing the size.

I forgot to ask you what the box looked like, Chris. Did she double box? The 2 that were cracked were badly cracked but not oozing. I sure wouldn't pack in something that settles in shipping.

That is exciting news! May your brooders soon be full to overflowing like mine are!

Not double boxed but the bubble wrap was taped at the ends so I may have cracked at least one of the eggs during my unwrapping because I had to cut a couple open.

Im thinking Im going to try the other 2 breeders this next month (once I get taxes finished) that way I might have more stock and try and get eggs from her line next year again. (Thinking about sending her a prepaid shipping container)

She didn't leave the ends open on the bubble wrap tubes? I'm sure Ron will chime in here but I thought that leaving the ends open is recommended for air exchange.

rolling up the eggs like a burrito, leaving the eggs in the center and putting them up in the box creates a spring type of protection of the eggs. They can move up and down and not break or crack the other eggs.

Thank you, Ron. That's how I packed the ones that I just sent. I really liked the Meek's method video but they've taken it down.

I know!

The pdf I use now has the correct packing in it. Meeks removed all of his shipping information from his website too.
