The Pita Pinta Asturiana chicken is a dual purpose breed indigenous to the principality of Asturias in north-western Spain. Pita Pinta are on the endangered breed list in Spain and are very rare here in the United States. The purpose of this thread is to share information and photos of this beautiful breed. There are several breeders here in California who are just starting their Pita Pinta breeding programs. It is my hope that we can help each other in this endeavor as well as network with other Pita Pinta breeders in the US and other countries.

I have 2 chicks so far. These two seem to have more black than I have seen in photos of other chicks. It is almost like a stripe from the head down the back. Have any of you had chicks like this before?

Time for the weekly progression photos. I finished up the small outdoor run space for them today. The weather has been so beautiful and I wanted them to be able to get outside even if it is only for a few hours everyday. I let them out into the big run yesterday while the girls were out in the yard. They loved it and that motivated me to finish their space. They will be 3 weeks old tomorrow.

This is a very temporary space. I hope to integrate them with the big girls in another 4-6 weeks. This ladies they will be joining:

It will also depend on how many chickens you have.

I hear you on the feed part. It’s a little concerning especially when a couple years ago when this started the feed store I was getting feed at was rationing the amount of bags. That quickly stopped though.

we import wheat and corn. feed prices go up every week. I plan to plant fast growing plants for my chickens like millet. I might be able to plant it 3 x a year. I also have seeds of oaxaca green corn that can be planted 2 x a year. lentils as well and of coarse alfa alfa. I need to search more. growing season here is 8-10 months long.

Have always had good results from Brice and his eggs. Several varieties.
Thanks everyone, appreciate the kind words. Just wanted to let you all know that we have plenty of PP hatching eggs right now at Sunbird Farms if anyone needs any. Just shipped some to @rnott1 this week. Have a good one everybody! -Brice
