The Pita Pinta Asturiana

I talked to petrock at the Modesto show. I am looking to get a rooster to put over my grab bag of hens. I would like to fertilize eggs and then hatch some.
Just playing around now. May get serious later but would like a pita pinta if the roosters are usually nice. But you know what PITA stands for? Pain in the ***.

I am in Stockton. Also looking at the Orpington. Anyone know anything about papa poultry in Redding. He breeds the orp..
I also found a breeder of the Orusthona in Northern California .. This is the breed I would eventually like to breed but very expensive. I would like to learn more before investing a lot of money.

I still have certain dogs who don't get the fact that these are not in their food chain. (Only the eggs when I decide)

Any thoughts?

Ive had several pita boys and most are usually nice. In fact all the ones from Debi have been great. The only aggressiveness at all in the birds I have had have come from Ron's line of them.

I lost the real cuddle bug of a boy I was hoping to breed him this year on temperament alone. (he was a decent boy otherwise though) I hope to hatch here this spring Im sure Debi has young boys already though.

Get a boy from petrock and do not breed the aggressive ones!

That is funny!

Not saying that you do some of the ones from you are the sweetest as well.

Out of the 15+ birds ive raised only 2 have shown any aggression at all.

I have a gorgeous chocolate Orpington cockerel that I hatched from an egg from Papa's Poultry. He is 3 and a half months old and quite big, already trying to mate the hens. I am looking to sell him soon cause my neighbors are not too happy with the crowing, let me know if you are interested cause I would love for him to find a good home!

I was worried that a lot of them were aggressive.

I am very happy that you will be breeding them this year since I am out of the breeding game now.

My Odile laid the lovely brown egg in the pic. My little Odette lays pink eggs, pink like ballerina tights. You've never seen anything so cute. I think most pitas lay in the cream to light brown color family.

I only asked because the standard calls for creamy eggs. at least what i have seen

I have not seen eggs in Spain though surprisingly the breed website does not seem to show pics

You definitely want a Pita PInta rooster!

I have a few at the farm from this past season's hatches. The youngest is 15 weeks old but most of them are 22-26 weeks old.

The Spanish standard calls for light brown egg that is smooth to touch. My Pita Pinta all lay a lighter brown egg than my Langshan. Let me see if I can find a pic.

Thank you for bringing this up, Jason. I'm glad that I went back to the standard and looked at this. I never noticed the smooth to touch part for the eggs. A few of my pullets/hens lay a rougher textured egg. I'll be sure not to hatch their eggs this season!
