How much longer do you expect to have excess pullets? I've finally managed to rustle up some room for new birds and Pita Pintas are one of the breeds I've been wanting to bring in, but I probably wouldn't be able to arrange a trip thataways for at least two weeks.

What age are your pullets at the moment?

The available pullets that I have range in age from 6 mo to 1 yr. They are all from last year's hatches. My best friend lives in Placerville so I might be persuaded to make a trip up that way!

It would be great getting Pita Pintas up to the Poultry Palace!

I've got my first PP batch in the incubator, along with my Marans and other eggs! 8/11 are progressing normally, 1 looked iffy, but I left it. Two I tossed. First hatch from the birds I hatched from your eggs last year, Debi!

I have three broodies right now, so may stick these eggs under them and start a new batch cooking! Only PP and Marans next time. This time I stuck in five CCL from our trio, four Spitz from a friend's quintet, and three F2 OE. Just needed a partridge in a pear tree!

I think that your eggs came from both Don Juan and Zorro, correct? My incubator is filled with Langshan eggs but I'm looking forward to hatchiing more Pita Pinta in May.

Well if you do decide to head up this way, definitely let me know! I'd absolutely love to get my hands on some of those pullets... I've been lurking on this thread looking at everyone's birds for a while and they are SO pretty!

That is true, though I'm not sure my boss would even know what to think of them! He has 500 pullets coming in this next week and he is doing nothing but stressing over it... 100+ phone calls about this batch in the past 10 days alone, we've had to put a limit of 6 birds per person on because it seems like this batch is going to be like last spring was and we want to make sure everyone can get some. We had one batch last year where we sold out of 500 birds in 3 days! Crazy stuff...

Yes, I looked back at my hatch data from your eggs, and had an equal amount of eggs from each of the roosters hatch. BUT, I don't know which I kept! One roo and the three best girls...

Ok ive been tracking growth weights and a couple of sexing tests on the 3 chicks I hatched

At 3 weeks its becoming obvious which are boys and which is a girl here are the growth rates at 1 2 and 3 weeks (measured in grams) 1 is female based on both Leg and Shoulder feather tests I think tail feathers also pointed to female.

Thanks! They alternate days (with my Marans) out in the horse pasture. Don Juan II is such a great rooster! I love his body type. Now I'm hoping for some upcoming cockerels with a straighter tail. He holds his a bit sideways, and when he molted it got squirrely! The girls are pretty nice. Chicks hatching next Wednesday... I've got three broody Marans, so they may go to them to raise.
