Joseph hadn't seen any people since before the Infection. The zombies on the other hand, were increasing with every mile he traveled. Civilization, he thought, what's left of it anyway. He knew that in order to find survivors, his best chance would be in the towns and cities. The problem being that he wasn't much of a city person, and zombies didn't help with that fact.
He knew he was close, but he didn't realize just how close until he came around a bend in the trail he had been following and saw someone ran out of the forest a few hundred yards ahead of him. Quickly, he dropped to the ground and slipped behind a tree, watching from a distance. It was unmistakably human, but it ran as though it were injured; a sure sign that it had been attacked.
Then he noticed something, 'Its very quiet...' The birds had stopped chirping. Rather than stay and fight whatever was stalking him, he decided to sprint towards the person had run out of the forest just a moment before. He broke into a full run, stopping when he reached a trail of foot prints that he led to the person he had seen. He looked around carefully, listen to everything. Its not safe here, he thought to himself...
Hurrying after the tracks, he found that they led to the door of a building. The handle was broken off, but it wouldn't open. Looking around, he found different sets of human tracks.
