i sure will linda what kind of chickens you raise or should i say raise you lol

I'm wanting to get into Lt. Sussex and White rocks. My first batch is coming Mar 27 but they are hatchery and I know that I'll probably have to upgrade. Second batch coming from Sandhill in May is White Dorkings, New Hamps, Blue Ameracaunas, Lt Sussex and assorted. I'm worried about quality on those too. We'll see. I really want to get a good start on quality White Rocks. I don't have an incubator yet so will have to order chicks. Not going with anymore hatchery ones though.

everything up till now has been bought at feed stores im sure they are hatchery. when i saw this bird i was amazed. i will be getting a white rock flock and also be crossing him with some cobb 500 to get a meat chicken. i have buff orpingtons also up at the wifes coop but they are hatchery i assume so i will be upgradeing them as i go.

Linda, if you like Rocks....why not Columbian Rocks....look like Lt Sussex, with add't black saddle feather colors.

I need to ask the experts. What variety of the Rock breed is the largest, my reason is to create my own homegrown Cornish x. I assume it's the white?

Here's the new cockerel I got from Jamie D. to cross over my Good Shepard Barreds. I just have him in with two pullets right now. I have two more I want to introduce, but they were with a Good Shepard cockerel. Their 8 eggs laid 3/3-3/9 were all infertile, but 7 eggs laid 3/10-3/16, one was fertile. Do you think it safe to go ahead and put them in with him? I want to make sure any chicks are from this cross so I don't have any confusion, but I don't want to wait too long to hatch, either. Maybe set one more batch and check fertility again?

In the meantime, I took the other Good Shepard cockerel out from my hen pen, 4 of my original hens. I am still collecting their eggs and will wait until fertility is zero before I breed the new one to them. Last year, that took 3 weeks.
