The Plymouth Rock Breeders thread

Just posting to say hi!

We have some White Plymouth rocks that i'm considering breeding. They are quality bred stock. I think I'm just a little overwhelmed trying to figure out what I'm doing --- doesn't help that my girls don't seem to want to cooperate with me either --- only 2 of my girls are laying.(out of 6).

I've got some Partridge rocks too. I thought about breeding these ones, but trying to get 'perfect' feathering seems almost impossible. I hatched some eggs of Partridge hens and a white roo and got some beautiful blue girls.
The "blue" offspring is likely the result of recessive white in the white rock cock/erel

Had a member here at BYC ask me about shipping some K's to OK. I'm fine with trying it. They need another week to 10 days and they'll be ready to go, Richard. If I can sneak 3 into that bigger box, I'll do it. I'm also gonna watch the weather there and look for a two day window of mild temps. Glad it's late May, as any later than early June, I don't believe I try it. I got three 75 K's that are peas in a pod. Little clones. You might give Mr. Reese a call over at Good Shepherd Poultry Ranch and ask Frank has got a few P's he'd be willing to part with. I bet you could even just drive over and pick them, if any are available.

I'd go with the White's. They are easier and not so confusing. And it's hard to beat a white

Would love to see pics of those blue pullets! Coming from partridge , they should have the pattern gene which would give them true lacing on the blues. That's something worth breeding for sure....

Interesting, If there is blue under the white of good typed birds that would be a valuable find for a blue breeder. I might take the blue pullets back to the sire and see what happens. You might be the top blue breeder in a couple of years. You can still breed the whites together when you get eggs.

If it was dominate white, all the chicks would be white wouldn't they??? Couldn't the blue have come from either parent? I don't know how the pattern gene works on the partridge. Is partridge supposed to be dominate?? Hey, send me some of them eggs!......

Really want to get the juvies onto grass. I'm working as fast as I can. Playing catch up as winter ate up most of Spring. Hope to finish up this little 6 x 8 mini pasture tractor finished up tomorrow.
This picture is going straight to the husband. I don't want a sable, a '54 convertible, a yacht, or a diamond mine. Just a chicken pen.

Well, I got welded wire on 3 sides of the little tractor but just ran out of gas and called it a day at about 7:45 pm.

I'll finish up tomorrow. I won't have the little shelter portion finished. I'll put a low roost in there and I'd like to cover it with metal roofing. Down in KY, we have access to cut off scraps of steel from roofs and pole barn stock. There's a guy in the village here who sells and installs metal roofs. Maybe I'll stop and see him tomorrow and see if he has any scraps.

Otherwise, I'll likely have to buy panels from HD or Lowes and that would drive the price up. I've not got a penny in this unit so far. All scrap wood and wire. I've seen folks use a tarp, but I don't think those would hold up very well and it doesn't please my sense of aesthetics either.

I want/need this unit light as a feather to easily scoot onto fresh grass every other day. I'm being careful about adding any excess weight.
