Males and females have been separated for about 5 days now, both groups seeming to enjoy the extra space apart from each other. I can see them so much clearer now that they are apart. It was definitely something I should have done weeks ago, now I know for the next group.

Im curious as to the average time frame for pullets to start egg laying. Im not expecting eggs from them for many weeks but I got a real full squat from one of my 16weeks old pullets yesterday. It caught me by surprise. Im sure eggs are still many weeks away but was wondering what others see on average. Jills group is a week ahead of mine so maybe she will be able to share any of her experiences with them as well..

The squat can often be submision and/or intimidation and nothing much to do with emminent eggs.

The old line would lay at 26-28 weeks and that's still a breeding target for me, CP. Don't be surprised that those with the sharpest barring and highest reflection of DNA from the outcross to the other line take a full month longer. Nature of this variety. I've had them go as long as 38 weeks.

Hello all, first appearance on this thread, not sure if I'm really in the right place as the chickens I have at the moment certainly aren't bred to any standard of perfection! I was wondering if I could get other's opinions on my hen? I'm trying to train my eye. I think her tail might be a bit high set? Be honest

Barred Plymouth Rocks in Austraila came from the US, of course, 100 years ago. Some birds were even brought back here, from OZ a few decades ago to refresh our bloodlines, as I understand it.

In any case, The American Standard and the Standard in Australia are similar, but not identical. Either way, your female is a very nice looking bird. Her over all "gravy boat" shape is quite nice. Barring is fair. Feather quality looks a bit soft and loose, but again, she's quite nice.

Fred, Are you going back to Knoxville again this year? And bringing that hen again, or just your whites? She's lovely. Can't wait to see her chicks next year.

What product do you use for permithrin? Do you put it in the wash or rinse water?

Right now it looks like the Northeast Poultry Congress is still on for January... Maybe....
