The PO needs held responsible for damaging eggs.......very sad.

When one box of eggs was labeled "live hatching eggs: very fragile" the box was crushed when I got it. When another box was labeled "fragile: glass" the box was in perfect condition. From what I understand, USPS will not honor insurance on eggs, so it's open season on the packages.

I'm sorry for your eggs and your chicks.

And also; USPS will OPEN boxes to inspect them - there is no reason to x-ray a box that says "live eggs, do not x-ray."

First, I have to say that my local P.O. is wonderful. They know I ship and receive eggs and are very careful. They can't be held responsible for what happens before or after they get it. Second, I can't say for sure the best way to ship eggs. I mark mine "FRAGILE AND PERISHABLE", "LIVE EMBRYOS" and "DO NOT X-RAY" and this seems to work the best. If I don't mark "DO NOT X-RAY", I get reports of what you had, cross beak and one or no eyes. I have NEVER had a chick hatch for me like this,so it has to be something done during shipping. I know it is chancy, but I agree, why should it be? It's not rocket science. Just don't abuse the package. So sorry you had such a bad experience. Poor chickies.

I completely agree.

It's kind of like at my house. We get tons of people stopping to take pictures of the covered bridge, fine. However they think my yard is a driveway. How would they like it if I came to their home and turned around in their grass. I think as a society people have become so concerned about themselves and less about how actions affect others.

I agree that it is simply a matter of not caring. I live in a town of less than 300 people....if they can't even manage to honor "call for pick-up" I shudder to think what the eggs went through between there and here. It is even worse when they "lose" a shipment of live chicks....how does one lose a box that is yelling at you! If my little one eyed/crossed beaked beauty makes it, I will do my best for her. She seems like she has a strong will to survive at this point. Oh, and make it ONE healthy baby. I just realized that one of the other two has spraddle leg. Time to break out the bandaids.

I don't get all the reverse psychology stuff. Are they three year olds? How can you label a box "Do not X-ray" and be assured that it will be. Do they think people are smuggling explosives inside of eggs? I was considering getting an incubator and ordering some eggs, but from the threads I've seen so far, I think I'll save myself some heartbreak.

Awww... poor babies. Just think though, they are in good hands! And you'll take care of them and love them for as long as they live. It's a good lesson for your son as well, to love animals/ people no matter their deformities.

I swear when I get eggs shipped they take the boxes and play kickball with them.

But lack of empathy, I went in to a pet store and told the owner that I was looking for some bird toys to keep my chicks occupied, he laughed at me. He said they're livestock, they are the simplest animals, don't worry about toys and treats.

I'm really sorry about this as well!!

Are these some of your BLRW eggs?
That really is a shame, I agree that they need to figure out a way to get them from seller to buyer without damaging and/ or x-raying them!
