The price of fertile eggs!

totally agree on the incubation experience-that is another reason why I have not spent that kind of money YET!! working on it and waiting on a good broody!

Some of the best and most experienced have had zero hatch from shipped eggs. It is very much a gamble that is for sure. Sometimes it is the only way to get what you really want. I live at altitude and that seems to make the risk even larger. Wow I have had some bad hatches from shipped while having very good with my own and local eggs.

When you buy the egg then you know what color it is and usually you have an idea of the parent flock... One bird can look nice but it takes two to make babies.. and that is 100 dollars plus the shipping and now you have two chickens that you don't know the egg color (I am assuming you are talking about marans or dark egg layers)... By purchasing egg at an astronomical price from a reputable breeder you have the best chance of getting a nice parent flock of your own... plus the shipping is considerably less... shipping a live bird can cost more than the bird.

I paid a fortune for hatching eggs... But I know what I wanted.. I got it.. It was totally worth it... did I have a couple bad hatches... yep.. that was factored in.
