Thanks all. Part of my success was that my mother believed that children are capable. She taught me young. She started teaching me to cook by the time I was 8. By the time I was 12 I knew how to balance a checkbook and make a budget.

She lived through some really tough times too. She was in Japan during WWII and knew what it was like to starve and want for even basic clothes.

For real! I had plenty of classmates at my school that still didn’t know how to do any of that. We literally had kids burn Mac & cheese in the microwave because they would forget to put water in We had to go outside in the middle of the night so many dang times! I think they put signs up.
