I did okay for myself. I did my laundry, I kept myself clean, I got straight As. No one figured that I needed help.

Why do you think I cook so much and so well? I couldn't afford to eat out, so I cooked. I ate pretty well on $5 a week, which would be about $20 a week in today's economy.

Edit: I did go hungry sometimes, but not often.

Homeschooling would not have worked out for us I don’t think thankfully though I was a little angel and nice to everybody so administration never messed with me lol I actually started feeling bad for how the kids would treat him as I got older cause I realized he really wasn’t that bad.

I'm strong because I had to be. I really, really believe that children are much more capable than most adults believe and can and should learn responsibility far earlier than they do these days. As a college professor, the number of young students that I've had to fail because they've never been held responsible for their own actions is depressing.

Edit: I knew from the time I was 12 that my mom was dying. She would have to go to the hospital for chemo and would be in the hospital for a couple of weeks to a month at a time. My brother and I were alone while she was in the hospital.
