Chevygirlbeth, I've taken old pictures to a copy store and had them copied on muslin, black and white look better, I think. Sort of a retro look. (I can't use my home copy machine.) I also did a wall quilt recently for a friend using novelty fabric and I used the 1940s style fabric on the 3x5 inch label. I wish I could show you. I did a small Ohio Star label with the writing in the center on a Christmas lap quilt. As for the pen, I've used a ZIG Millennium, which is archival quality, waterproof and fade proof. Also, a Micron pen has worked for me. (Hobby Lobby) I prefer a fine point. I really like novelty prints. When my grandson was born I did a western wall quilt. On my label I had a carnival picture of me on a bucking bronco when I was about 10. I remember my dad carefully posing my hair to look like I was really riding that bronc. The label can really be creative and personal.
Using the photos sounds really neat! I guess I definitely will have to look into a better marker to use. The ones I've gotten at JoAnn's just don't seem to stay as well as I had hoped they would. Thank you!
BTW, you said it was 6 months after the wedding "late",, you should know it is now late!
It was the general custom not so long ago, when people gifted things like hand made quilts, and
letters to distant family announcing news of weddings etc. might take weeks or months,
that wedding gifts were considered perfectly on time up to one year after the date of the wedding
