Not sure, but I think this is the Cuckoo Maran. I know the extra chicks are typically roosters but any thoughts? When he first arrived he was really black, but now he's 2 weeks and looking more grey. So does that mean roo? I have nothing to compare him too since I've never had marans. Also when I first got him I tried sexing by feathers based on primaries and covert length and they were all even so I assumed a roo. I don't know if that even works for this breed. But I wanted to see. Any thoughts? Oh they are now 2 weeks and 1 day from arrival. Thanks!

It definitely looks like a cukoo maran from what I can remember getting mine a couple of months ago. I went through my pictures, but don't have any good shots of they that young. Mine were all pullets, so I don't know anything about what the Roos would look like at that age. Good luck!

The only reason why I don't think it's a barred rock is because the are not listed under the rare breed category from MMH.

It's neither a barred rock or a cuckoo Marans. He has a rose comb, so he is a Dominique.
I do believe its a male too, by the lighter barring.

I completly missed dominiques. How can u tell rosé comb from so early of an age?

A rose comb will be a wide flat spot on a chick vs a single comb that's a tiny little ridge. Here are a few pictures of some of my young girls, I don't have many good quality baby chick pics.
