The Red Pepper Experiment!

I sprinkle the chicken feed with cyane (sp?) pepper when I notice we are going through more than normal. I add it at night after the ckickens are put to bed and do so for 3-4 nights. It seems to work and I only have to do it maybe once a month. I also heard it works as a dewormer. Don't know if that is ture or not, but never had a worm issue with our chickens.

Thanks for the info. We'll definitely have to try it. We were cleaning up yesterday around the new coop & had a mouse run when we picked up the tarp. I'm sure they will be finding their way inside......if they can get by the vulture peeps. They go after anything that moves. Gwetch pe!

actually the 3 tbsp of cayanne pepper put into the gallon of feed
as only feed source is for worming and coccidiosis prevention
this would be asset to the detering rats and mice

any questions email me

I've posted this a couple times before. I don't like to copy/paste repeats, but it may be helpful here...

About the Cayenne Pepper:

Hot pepper like Cayenne is high in vitamins C and A. It helps to protect the intestines from damage due to bacteria and protozoa and has some bactericidal and protozoan suppression qualities. It acts as a tonic.

According to herbal remedies, the active ingredient is capsaicin. When taken internally capsaicin can warm the body, raise metabolism, improve weak digestion and increase circulation.

I mix 1/2 tsp ground cayenne pepper per cup of feed. Any of the hot peppers will do. But not the black peppercorns they're a different type of plant. In the summer, we toss them garden refuse of peppers - jalapeno, hot banana, anaheim, cayenne that are damaged.

No, but you will get more of them. It must have something to do with the dialation of capilaries. I'm just guessing though.

A little off subject here but i noticed that you said that your using rat poison. I wouldn't suggest doing that because if the rat eats it and the chickens get the rat the poison can be passed on to the chickens. I would hate to think that someone accidentally poisoned their flock.
