Since I'm fairly new to chickens, I'm sort of testing myself and what I have learned on BYC...so let's see if your expert opinions match up to what I am thinking.

First the Reds...

What type of reds are they? RIR's, Production Reds, or something else????? (They are hatchery stock if that helps)
2 of them look like roo's to me. Let me know if I need to get a better picture. They wouldn't cooperate very well. May have to wait til someone is around to hold them for a good head shot.

Next the BR's...1 hen and 1 roo?

Looks like you have 2 hatchery quality RIR roos and 1 RIR hen. The barred rocks? Hmm...chick #5 is a roo. Chick #4 looks "iffy" as it's almost as white as #5. Maybe someone else can chime in...

ETA: How old are the RIRs?

Thanks...looks we won't be adding as many newbies to the coop as I thought. Hubby decided we should buy these chicks in case my eggs didn't hatch. If that one and the EE (that I posted in another thread) turn out to be roos, then I'll only have one pullet out of the bunch.
I hope the iffy BR isn't a roo, but s/he IS looking a little red in the wattles. My son really wanted a black chicken

Oh well, maybe some of my 4 hatchlings will turn out to be female. I'll wait a few weeks and post their pics. They are only a little over a week old right now.

And if not, I'll just HAVE to hatch some more eggs!!!!!!!

ETA: If you want to hatch more BR, Bargain (Nancy) has some nice BR's. I only had a couple and they both turned out to be roosters, but they had nice barring. I also got my welsummers from her.

You are correct! They are about 5 weeks old +/-

THESE chicks are a little over a week old.

new2chooks: Thanks, I'll keep Nancy in mind. But I don't think DH will go for me buying hatching eggs just yet.
