some males will look lighter than that, BUT the lighter the males the less chance you get at getting rich colored males... Mahogany does infact affect chick down color, at least on gold base birds(s+, because on S males it will not)

6 out of 10 hatched. 3 males 3 hens. I have 10 set to hatch tomorrow, and 12 on Saturday. All three different sellers. I am anxious to see the results! I was hoping to get a good start with a breeding stock out of the three hatches. I also have 12 HRIR coming to help out. I just need to learn more!
I'm really rethinking my program...if you can call it that at this point. Perhaps just starting with a well-grown cockerel from someone that REALLY is paying attention and knows what they have, and doing the HRIR "improvement" program might get me where I'm going actually faster than messing about with unknowns.

Going back to HRIR is The Fastest Way for you to Gain proper RIR traits that have been lost on the Rhodebar due to incompetent breeding(GFF for example) or due to Highly inbred lines due to low Rhodebar number...

Wantd to post this here... its the Paper by Dr. Punnett where he studies the nature of the "Dark chick down" on Legbars, it was introduced by breeding the Danish Leghorn of that time(may not be the same danish line today)

But what Danis Leghorn e+ allele has to do with Rhodebars? well here is the connection Danish Leghorn> Legbars> GFF crossing Legbars with Rhodebars

the roo above should look like a RIR TOO RIGHT? if that is the case his back is way too short tail way too high and wing is way too low.
is the color on the pullet correct? she is lighter than mine are with more pattern.

I will get some pics of my breeders sometime over the next week if the weather breaks.
Type is not good, but I believe color is... and DMRippy you are right, that hen above is not correct...
