The Rhodebar thread!

Can't wait to see them. .. Our genetics are so similar that they should be very similar to mine. Am crossing my fingers for tomorrow nights hatch but am not optimistic. I only set 4 and they were alive on day 10, but I'm not sure they made it through the long power outage.
So I'm living vicariously through you til I hatch some. :)

I'm just guessing that your best "first" evaluation will be about 2 days old. You put your Rhodebar cockerel over HRIR pullets right? Not vise versa?

Right, I put Rhodie over 2 of my HRIR hens (was 3 but lost Henroo). The two chicks that have hatched do have horn color on the tip of their beak, not all the way up but it is definitely there. These chicks are hatching slow. I am used to having a pip, then a fast zip, then pow, out of the shell.

I can't see any pip on any of the RC eggs so far. I only have 3 in this batch and am hoping that they make it. I really need to expand that flock.

Will do Sheri. I have First hatched under the heat plate and my lights off so she would stop peeping, lol. She is more redish then brown and her stripes don't seem as pronounced as the pics I have seen of the Rhodebar chicks. Although she didn't fluff up to good down her back yet and even had chips of egg shell stuck to her back so that could be what is making the stripes not look so pronounced.

I am just a bit confused as to if I should be hoping for more females or males, lol.

F1 pullets to cross back to RB, that is what I would want.

For the most part that's what I'd like too. I will breed the barred females back. But a single barred male could be used eventually too... so I wouldn't cull them all

We are expecting a bad ice and snow storm beginning in about 3 hrs, so in just hoping we don't have a major power outage. I don't have the bators hooked up to the back up power yet so... That would be devastating.

I will SO make sure I have all the back ups set up for next year. It's just been such a weird weather year. Is it spring yet?

One of the 4 F1 due to hatch tonight is pipping. Yeah! After 2 long power outages I'm surprised but I'll take it!

I am thinking that I won't cross the F1's back to the RB rooster. The Rhodebars really need a lot of work and a lot of good quality Red influences back into their bloodline. I am thinking if I do at least 1 more generation of crossing back to my HRIR that will put more of the good Red traits in the line before crossing them back to the Rhodebar line.

I hope that makes sense.

Oh my gosh Sheri. As bad as our winter has been I know yours has been much worse. I am so hoping that winter is about over. It was so nice and warm and now it is raining and cold. Crazy weather.

I hope your F1's make it. I have 3 out of the hatcher now but 1 isn't looking to good. I have 2 out of ther eggs in the hatcher. A couple of the pipped eggs aren't looking to good and I am not seeing any movement in them. Nothing on my RC eggs so far.

The 3 F1's in the brooder are looking to be female. The 2 in the hatcher are still to wet to tell.
