The Rhodebar thread!

No, Black stars are a hybrid sex-linked and do not breed true. While Rhodebars are a hybrid they do breed true therefore are an actual breed.

Black Stars are a one time shot, while years of breeding goes into making a Rhodebar. Some of the same ingredients but a lot more selective breeding.
Now I get it. :)

He is a beautiful rooster, but definitely not a Rhodebar.

Is it possible for him to be a RIR and Black Star cross? Since Stars don't breed true, maybe he could be a cross between them?

It is quite possible. He looks like a black star male as a chick, but is showing a little more red than usual. I don't see why he couldn't have been a black star male crossed back to a RIR or a black star male who shows more red leakage than others. I do love his color.

While some strains of Rhodebars were developed using Brussbar other breeders were using BPR to develop their lines including Pickard and the UBC.

Ok, I'm back. Posted my Rhodebars about a month ago, thinking the light one may be a boy, but wasn't sure because it was feathering out as much as the chipmunk one, and, also had a bit ..tiny bit, of a chipmunk marking on it's back. I'm pretty sure they are both pullets now.
