The Rhodebar thread!

Thought was time for a pic of the F1s. I took individual pics and group pics today. Here's one that was one of the darkest at hatch.
And here is one of my female looking F1's from second batch Penny
Wow, I'm hoping consistency is a good thing. They sure look like mine. Fun watching them grow and change. I have a couple who are getting a little orange tint on their necks - ugh

I know when I look at pics of yours it's like I am looking at mine. So when Marvin suggested that Rhodie may be a single barred rooster I thought either we both have single barred roosters in our pen or something else is going on due to our strong HRIR bloodline, because our chicks are about identical. Now knowing what I know about GFF stock I wouldn't doubt single barred roosters but I sure am hoping that something else is going on.

I had thought that even with a single barred rooster you would get barred and unbarred females and barred and unbarred males. So far it looks like all my males are/going to be barred and I see no signs of barring in my females. I have been rereading this entire thread (and over at the classroom) trying to figure out what is going on.

I've just driven all day to pick up three HRIR layers for my RB pen. They are lovely birds, especially the pullet. My intention is to put the RB cock over these HRIR and then backcross to the RB. I know it's not optimum, but will get me better type than currently in my RB pair and prove (once and for all, right??) if the cock is single or double barred.

I'm too tired to remember but will post later. I got them from Bud Alston in WA. I think the pullet (darker, larger than the hens) he said Padgett? (Don't know the spelling either, sorry.)
I had a mixed RB hatch today...they are all over the map with one that is unsexable from my pair. This means my cock is single barred doesn't it (and therefore isn't even a RB)?

I do have a 3 month old that I hatched from OK but he's pretty dark also...less black on him by far though. And some little cockerels that are possible double barred. I'll get some photos when I'm not dog tired. Another early day tomorrow.

I earned my stripes there... there are really good teachers there, Sonoran silkies, KazJaps, Henk, wieslaw, and you can reed Dr. Ron Okimotto's past post in there too, a Geneticist very dear to most of us

Yes ya'll are amazing over there. Now I have another question or observation for you. In my first hatch of F1's the females are getting darker legs whereas the males still have nice yellow legs. Female legs are looking more of a light smoky gray at this point very noticeable difference when next to a male. What is causing this?
