The Rhodebar thread!

These are the chick pics i posted 3 months ago. You said then that the first pic was double bar. You was right. I will post the double bars tomorrow. I have 2 HRIR that are almost the same age. Is it better to use the single bar or the double bar to breed to the HRIR?

More info on the birds would be nice, the first rooster looks to be a nice single barred cockerel
Yes I'm trying to figure out what we are looking at... The Rhodebar pullet (id like to see her barring/lacing better). I see several double barred cockerel pics. Although I'm guessing the last pic is not Rhodebars it is production Reds? Just hard to tell from the pics without more explanation. But it looks like this is a start to a breeding program?

if both males have the same Type and body i would go with double barred males, IF the single barred male has better type and body i would go with him, you would have to hatch double the chicks because of that, as you would only produce 50% barred chicks

That first pullet looks just like my first hatch F1 females.

i just dont see barring on that first pullet..

I agree but I'm curious if she has lacing. I thought maybe so from the pic. Tracking down the source of yet another pullet with lacing could be important I think. .. If in fact she has lacing.

We may simply be looking at some F1s here?

Rhodebar x HRIR F1s should have Barring, all of them, that is if the Rhodebar males are double barred

"Should"... But part of creating our F1s has proven to be verification of some genetics. I'm beginning to think there are some single barred cockerels floating around who are being called Rhodebars.
Thus far my chicks are all showing barring. .. But I'm reserving judgement until they get a little more age on them since Penny has voiced some concerns about hers as they age.

Well I have had several people look at my RB cock and say he is double barred but as I have told you from the start I wouldn't doubt him being single barred because he originally came from GFF stock. I look at my Rhodie's tail and think he is double barred, then I look at the females he produced and think he must be single barred.

I think the genetics in the GFF RB stock are all over the spectrum, remember they crossed production Reds into their RB line and goodness only know what genetics those Reds had.

Even if he is single barred... Some of his F1s should be barred. That is what I find strange

Exactly, I mean I know my numbers were low but not to even get 1 unbarred male or 1 barred female makes no sense to me. All my males are showing barring and my females show no barring (that I can see) once they are good and feathered. I see lots of chicken dinners in my future, lol.
