The Rhodebar thread!

I would not sell any chicks from them if it were me because you will not know until they feather out who has lacing. I would breed them and then raise a bunch of chicks. Keep only the chicks that are very easily autosexed. Cull the rest. Then out of those you keep, keep only a couple who feather out the best. Then cull the parents.
Now you have more dependable breeders.
That's how I started and I put a LOT of RB in the freezer, but I firmly believe you have to assure yourself of what you have before you can begin outcrossing. Otherwise you will be able to be confident about the quality of the chicks you are producing.
We are only keeping the easily autosexed anyone who is not easily sexed are labeled as culls and used for eating or egg layer flock but not labeled as a Rhodebar at all. I agreed that is why we have been culling heavily on these. Most hatches come out great with several very easily sexed chicks but sometimes not so good. We currently have about 12 cockerels growing out for the freezer.

Also keep in mind... about half of what I'm seeing from gff these days are not easily autosexable. So I wouldn't assume down color and pattern just because of origin. Jmo.
I have had dozens of private pics sent to me just in the last week to ask for analysis... more than half are directly from gff... more than half of those are not autosexable out of eggs and some day old chicks.
Selling eggs and not knowing is one thing. But shipping out day old chicks who are not autosexable is inexcusable. Use caution.
I am not wanting to accuse or cause trouble with gff... they simply do not know I think. So it falls on the rest of us to know which ones are the breeders if we not only don't want to loose the autosexing but we want to improve the breed.

I agree.

And here's a weird one for ya... Someone got a group of RB chicks this week and one or more had shanks with feathering.
:-O

Hey guys this just a thought do you think greenfire use welsummer in with their RB? I had a hatchery wels a few years ago that looked very similar to some of the pics. Would they cross for a gentic purpose? I do not know . Basically thinking out loud
