The Rhodebar thread!

pics of them as chick would be great too as one would see them as adults and chicks

I put one up. The dark chipmunk and the light yellow looking one, it isn't really yellow, but the lighting does that when they are in the brooder.

I need to look on a bigger screen but regardless of sex I would not breed 2 of the 3... Only the chipmunk one. The reason? No matter how much you like them as adults you do not want to pass on their inability to be easily autosexed. Jmo

You are correct... sorry... Not Rhodebar

Ok so I am thinking maybe a chick from somewhere else in the incubator, I am not home right now but my daughter can not clearly identify a third egg being marked and I know that if it had been out of a marked egg we would have seen it marked on the egg shell. I did have all the eggs sorted by breed. So far the other chicks are very obviously rhodebars.

I agree, they would be just gold based Delaware, who should have the same genotype as Rhodebar with the exception of Wheaten and Silver instead of gold

Totally agree but if you do decide to breed them I would only sell or give chicks away as barnyard mixes, not Rhodebars.

Doesn't matter... If it isn't autosexable it isn't a Rhodebar. I would put it in the freezer regardless of sex. I have found that pullets taste just as yummy as cockerels. But then again... I am the Queen of Cull. ROFL

The darker one looks like many of the females coming out of GFF stock. That light one, while pretty, does not have the auto-sexing trait that a Rhodebar should have. Can you see if you can get pics of the parent stock?

It isn't of GFF stock. I do have one out there that is of GFF stock though. She is darker like the dark one pictured here..and Red..I am not eating one of my chickens. LOL>....I have a small flock, they are my girls. Now if an earthquake happened, and we needed food.. hmmm...
I come on here and read up on all of you knowledgeable folks though. I can look at them and wonder what my HRIR will make with one of them. I'm learning a bit about F1's..or something like that. Hope ya don't mind me buggin every now and again. I just wonder about that light one being a girl. Darn it, I thought for sure it was a girl, now the one I got the eggs from says she still thinks it's a boy. I don't. :/
