How would the information stay current...one would have to scroll down through a million pages just like on this forum to reference the tidbits of info scattered throughout the page? I don't see how it is much different than this here...just people asking questions and others commenting on it. Unless I missed something or some tool available that can organize the topics into categories?

I know but....we keep "messing up" these threads by covering so many topics that aren't really pertaining to the titles. Folks out there wouldn't even know there is rooster info in here, for example. On FB, if there's a topic that's been discussed before, you can revive it back to the top of the page by putting a new comment on that topic.

So...if 3 weeks ago we were talking about roosters, and a new person shows up and asks a question about roosters, one of us could reference that person's name on the old post, and encourage them to read through it. That way it comes back into view on the page again as the top post.

Probably sounds confusing but it does work.

And...I'll quit harassing you now!

PS: I don't think it messes the threads up 'cuz I like all the banter...just wanted to make that clear...I love all the diversion... But if I were wanting to find some info on things I wouldn't know I could look in here to find it if I wasn't a regular follower

Hmmm - I see your point. What about something like this.

Pages can be added for different subjects (see the tabs at the top) and then people can ask questions in the comments section. Important info and points could be added to each post.

I started working on this the other day - still playing, adding (lots to add) and tweaking before I let the cat out of the bag. I was going to ask and see if you'd be my main resource on this... but sort of chickened out and figured you'd be too busy. I wanted to start putting together a sort of "encyclopedia" of the OT ways for newbies like myself and have been trying to go through the variety of information and compile as much of the "meat and potatoes" of natural chicken keeping as possible.
Well, the cat's out of the bag now, and on one of the most popular threads on BYC!! Looks good, by the way. I like the way you've got it "organized"!!

No,I don't mind one bit...but I'm somewhat FB illiterate. It seems so public and open that it makes me reluctant to try it. Too many idiots out there wanting attention that will comment and post to disrupt the flow. A person would have to constantly monitor it for these types of trolls unless you closed the group, which would present a whole new set of problems.

How would you guys do it?

Just sent you a pm...

From one who is lurking and learning and doesn't know enough to post, I would ask you not to take this info to FB. I have learned so much and the info here has pretty much saved my flock. I never would have found it on FB.
Thanks Bee and All.
my 2 cents.

Oh, I absolutely agree aoxa. I'm sure that's the reason Matter of fact, last year a dear friend of mine died. At the wake some of his relatives brought their young children. They were playing in the sitting room and coloring . Well, some of the family were horrified that someone brought their kids and said they thought it would be too traumatic. I told them no, children should be brought to wakes and funerals from a young age. Death is a part of life. And I also told them that if they were exposed young, and the parents acted naturally and calm about the whole process, then their children would grow up able to handle death and be more emotionally healthy for the experience. Now, I can't tell you why I'm having such a problem with killing a chicken feeling that way about death, but I'm thinking it's because, well to put it frankly, it's a slaughter. The dead part doesn't bother me. It's the killing that does. And truly, it's not even the killing. It's the slaughter. And people who have had the experience start slow. They see their grandparents or parents killing and processing for a time before it's turned over to them. They've been taught, by example, that it's a natural process. I think it's the approach by which children are taught that is sometimes more important than the teaching itself. I envy those that grew up in the country and have that knowledge of raising animals, growing their own food, and about life in general. My husband told me the other day, we're old, and now you want to be a farmer! I guess not, but I sure would like to be able to raise these chickens the proper way.

The nice thing about the "blog" format is that I/we can delete spam or comments from trolls. We can work in all the suggestions and Bee's wisdom, and put up posts that answer the best questions. The most important stuff can have their own tab at the top for quick reference, and the rest of the blog can be made searchable. Also, blogs have good visibility to search engines (my main blog gets a few hundred hits a day just from search engines) so newbies searching for information will be more likely to benefit from Bee's knowledge.

It's just a thought...
