I am so with you! There is a purpose for all things! God definitely has a purpose for your precious little silkie! I certainly plan on seeing all my animals again one day! Running my own little farm in heaven :)

Sending up prayers for all you guys in the path of the storm!!!

Beekissed,
This thread has taught me many things most of which I am going to implement as fast as my tires will take me in the morning.
(You did wonder what those of us "watching" were thinking and if we would ever chime in)

The most important thing I have gleaned from this thread (yep I read it ..all of it , every post, every word in 2 days) is this:

Sage advice is much like the spice, in the wrong cook's hands it will ruin the dish.

I am happy to exclaim that you are indeed a GREAT cook.

Many of us "new Eggs" are willing and happy to learn of NORMAL husbandry that doesn't include abnormal chemicals.
Many of us are told that medicated and injected eggs are the "be all and end all" of any flock woes. Your advice is based on sound and natural principals and I really appreciate that as many of my flock are to be consumed by my family.
I have a mixed flock of chickens as when I purchased them they were all mystery chicks and I love a good mystery.

my hens went through a molt recently and the egg production is down I am aware that this is natural and I have bantams to fill in that gap...(they taste good too) but the SLW has had the issue from pretty much the onset of laying and needs to be culled I do have a batch of chicks and most are of the Welsummer hen with an EE and a gold laced red mutts I know but the hens are good and the roo seems healthy. any opinions are welcome as I am here to learn. Thank you again Beekissed for starting this thread it is just what was needed.

You're quite welcome! And I'm glad you chimed in...it helps to know if the information is hitting a good note.

Your birds are healthy and happy looking and I like the looks of your grass. I hope your birds can recover from the "roo wear" after this molt is over...they are mighty pretty hens.

If you have questions or a tried and true natural method you'd like to contribute here, please do so...this is a learning thread and I'm still learning, never stop learning.

Thank you very much they are beautiful to me and seem healthy as well. They get free range from dawn till dusk with plenty of layer crumble and a hand of scratch brings them in the BB Bronze has adopted them since he lost his hen to a dust bath mishap...she took a 1 1/2 hour dust bath and had respiratory failure from it. I will be using your FF method and post pics after a reasonable time for comparison.

I am absolutely learning so much from this thread!! Started everyone on the FF yesterday and it is taking them a little while to warm up to it, but I am sure they will.

Bobbieschicks - I am so sorry for your loss! I had the same thing happen,I came home from church to find the hawk on one of my girls. That was my first loss :(

I was wanting to post a few pictures and see if anyone has any ideas as to what is happening to my girl's beak. It has been going on for about 2 months. I took her to the vet, who works on birds at our local zoo. She did not even know what is going on. I would love it if anyone has any ideas and what might be a remedy to get these wart looking things to go away!! Oh and no one else is showing any signs of this on their beaks. Thank you so much for any help!

Just throwing it out there, but this looks an awful lot like a parakeet I used to know who had "scaly leg mite" (a Knemidocoptes species, just like the one that affects chickens) that had colonized his beak instead of his legs. The beak was dry, grooved, badly deformed, and had almost a spongy or "honeycomb" texture when clipped. He didn't have any warty growths like your bird, but those might just be the result of really ticked-off skin and nostril lining: the mite is super offensive to the tissues. The parakeet was treated for scaly leg mite (they used Ivermectin injections) and the problem resolved completely. So maybe Beekissed's NuStock will be helpful (can it be used near the face?). Good luck!
