The secret is out, I have indeed returned to the US...

Oh I think it's common knowledge and not personal. I was born in Washington. My mother was born in Worcestershire. My grandmother was a war bride from Worcestershire/Herefordshire. I grew up with and spent most about half my time with my grandmother/grandfather. My wife is from North Yorkshire. So, I have some strong ties.

And actually, our US/UK families had grown out of touch over the years. Caroline and I have been married 8 years now and during our journeys we have managed to meet nearly all the family from my mother's/grandmother's side of the family. They are wonderful people and it's brought us all very much closer.

We only made it as far as Hadrian's Wall this time.

We were scheduled to honeymoon in Edinburgh in December of 2000. That was the year of the floods in the UK and we couldn't drive, fly or get a train to Scotland. We ended up in a country inn within the North Yorks Moors, got snowed in, and have gone back every visit since for at least 3 nights. It's funny where life takes you.

Not all difficulties end in tears.

I could see Wales! We were in Hereford one day, which of course is right on the border.

My 'cousin' over there is married to a Welshman and they live in Cardiff. Well, her mother is my mother's cousin. So, I'm not sure what that makes us.

Rock on!

Glad you had fun...though I'm terribly sorry you caught a cold!

Now. I know you better have gotten more pictures than that...and not from a cell phone? If not, you're in trouble.

We actually didn't take a camera, so I just borrowed those from a relative who took them.

I forgot my wedding rings, too, this trip. Something to do with working all nighters up to the day of departure made my packing a little absent minded.

So, do we have to behave now? We were pretty wild while you were gone. There was a very contentious David Bowie thread a bit a go, scary stuff.

I've always been attracted to England's beauty as well (even though they talk kinda funny there

). Maybe we Pacific NW people are inexplicably drawn to wet, green places. Plus, there are hedgehogs. Cute and eat snails, they must be the perfect mammal. Don't tell me if they are considered a pest over there,I don't want to hear it, I have serious hedgehog envy.

I'm sorry about your animals, I am sure that must have been hard to come home to.

Edited to add - I was in no way involved in that David Bowie thread. I kept my nose clean, yessiree.

I would love to go to Scotland one day but the cost of living and homes there are so high.......I would not be able to afford to live there!
